i've tried the Compact gel thingy, it was effective for a while, but the roaches seem to be immune to it now. wat other products can effectively control these pests in long run?

Roach-Prufe, hands down. In hardware stores. It consists of boric acid and is sold under other names. Put it only where kids/pets can't get at it. The way the nozzle is designed you can kind of shoot the powder under the fridge, etc.

You probably have to hire someone to fumigate the place. It's hard to get rid of cockroaches.

this is true roaches will "move on" when there is nothing left to eat. keep all food tightly sealed and everything else spotless.
