yes we tend to talk to them in our dialect and expect that they understand us just cz they saw lots of our movies , and we don't put any effort to be more familiar with theirs .

Depends on you.
If you like to learn accents then why not?
But nobody should or should not do anything they don't need or they don't find it necessary.
Most Arab countries understands Egyptian accents. But I think it's nice to have an idea about the accent of any Arabic country, that you visit a lot ( :

Well, they should be familiar with Standard Arabic so that they can read Koran and understand books, news, etc. But we have our effect on Arabs... I think almost all Arabs can understand Egyptian Arabic quite easily.

Salam
That is a very good question you know. I find as a whole the nation has been welcoming for any visitors and or peaceful means for a very long time in the reagion and I personally would like to see a greater involvement for them in the unitied nations and become a for front for peaceful efforts in the region. What is it that holds this process or am I just not looking in the right places inshAllah tahala.
A great country is always one you hear very little news from? Is that how it works?

colloquial egyptian arabic is well known by all arabs bec of our movies and serials.
in King Farouk , Taim Hassan speaks egyptian arabic v well though he is syrian.
i can understand lebanese arabic bec they stretch the words long enough for me to catch what they say.
a new syrian serial, Al sageena, is clear bec it is contemporary and the actors speak without exaggeration.
so, it all depends on who is speaking and what he is saying.

they could, but it wont be easy because we tend to simplify every word and letter. I find Gulf dialect difficult not to mention Moroccan and Tunisian were they mix Arabic with French :$
