I have suddenly lost my printer spooler. I use a PC running Windows XP. I have tried to detect how this has happened but to no avail. I tried reloading my printer software but I still get the message that my printer spooler could not be detected. Why??????

let me guess you have a lexmark printer and if you do what happened is that it disabled the windows print spooler ( it has happened to me with a lexmark printer)
so you have to go to the start menu and the run and type services.mcs ( i think that is the right command) and then find the print spooler and enable it
i hope this helps
tc and gl

If it means that the Windows process spoolsv.exe could not be detected then you can start it manually. Check Task Manager first to see if the process is listed by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

If it is not running then start it manaually:-

Start >> Run and type: services.msc

Then scroll down to Print Spooler and start the service.

Print spooler is a Windows Service, it comes preloaded and is why you are unable to use it after reinstalling the printer software.

Most likely you have some kind of spyware or malware stopping Windows services, either that or you have someone messing around in your computer that does not know what they are doing.

To scan for viruses and spyware, use these free utilities:

Adaware:

AVG antivirus:

After you install, update and run those utilities in SAFE MODE (message me if you need instructions on how to get into SAFE MODE)

Remove any infections you find, then reboot into standard windows.

Try printing again, if it still does not work you are going to need to restart the print spooler service.

Type "services.msc" into the "run" dialog of the start menu and search for the "print spooler" service. Open the properties and set it to "automatic".

If that does not work for you, you have some major problems with your Operating System and should bring it to a repair shop.

Either that or follow the directions that came with the computer on how to do a system restore. Back up important data before you restore though, or it will be erased.
