People seriously drive me nuts! Why can't people realize that every person is meant to be an individual and some are meant to be larger than others, some smaller....its no different than how some are meant to be dark, some light, some tall, some short, some male, some female, some smart, some not, blah blah blah....why do people base their self worth on being thin? Not everyone is meant to be thin. My friend's family drives me insane! At every holiday, they all sit around talking about losing weight. They won't even associate with the couple of chunkier people in the family and they ruin all the good food by substituting fat free ingredients until the food is not even recognizable. I thought you were SUPPOSED to eat good, fattening food at Thanksgiving! These people have gotten to the point that they can't even have a normal conversation with them without talking about diets and weight loss. Why can't people just enjoy life as it is and not strive for what it isn't?

let me clear somethings up....first of all, I understand that being obese causes problems. But I'm not talking about huge people. I'm talking about average people or people with just a few extra pounds, nothing serious. I met a girl who was a size 3 and thought she was fat!

The most beautiful girl I ever dated wasn't thin. She had a big butt, slight belly and small boobs. But she was gorgeous! She accepted herself like she was and never tried to change it. She was so much fun!

To answer one person's question---I'd rather be with the confident happy 300 lb girl than the depressed weight obsessed 130 lb girl. Confidence is prettier than being thin.

Oh, and thanks for the invite to dinner! lol sounds great!

Blame society and its messed up view of thin-ness. In other words they are promoting that if you are bone thin, you are healthy. If you have some meat on your bones, you are not only overweight but will suffer from every disease known to man. Although I believe too much weight is too much (like 400 and 500 pounds for a 5'5" frame), there is nothing wrong with weight. You can be big, eat healthy and in moderation and still be healthy. Besides, Meat is for the man, bone is for the dogs! *ahaha*

I hope your Thanksgiving isnt spoiled because others decide to spend their one lifetime discussing weight. Heck, when we all die we will be reduced to ashes and dust...so will it be now who has more dust and ash than the others? HMMMMM lol

There is a difference in being obsessed with weight and associating it with self worth. Personally, I am not that bad, but I am a little obsessed. Not because I am worried what people think about me, but for the fact that I know if I don't straighten myself out now, based on family history, I will be headed straight for heart problems, severe obesity, and many other problems. Sometimes I feel like I am not chosen for things because of my weight (people at the Gap, Abercrombie, etc. don't want heavier people working for them). Where I get mad is when you have a size 5 complaining that she is fat. Also, it's reason for a girl to worry if she goes from a size 5 to a size 9 or 11 within a few months because that means she is gaining weight abnormally and that may be something to worry about. I do understand what you mean overall, like when a girl says "does this make me look fat" because if you think it does, it probably does (if you're heavier especially); I am just saying that there are some reasons to be quite a bit more worried. Yeah some people are meant to be bigger, but there is a difference between a bigger build and having more weight than your bone structure is meant to carry. My question to you is, what is your solution to the problem. When they talk about losing weight, say something productive. And also, would you rather be with a girl who is a 300 pound confident person or a 130 pound girl who is depressed or obsessed about weight. Remember to consider sex, being in public, marriage, lifetime issues, etc.

There are a few reason. In today's world, where fattening food is readily available and most of us spend eight+ hours a day on the computer instead of doing physical labor, it is very easy to become overweight, even obese, to the point that it can cause serious health problems. It is not so easy to lose weight or stay thin given the average American's lifestyle. That is why most of us have to make time to exercise regularly and eat healthy.

Also, while weight isn't the most accurate measure of one's health, it certainly is the easiest to measure and therefore the easiest to monitor. You can check your weight every day, even several times a time, without any pain or problem. It's not so easy to check your blood pressure or cholesterol count. So we have to rely primarily on what the scale says for a day-to-day measure of our physical health.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Many people don't realize that negative attitude makes other people uncomfortable. I go into a store to buy food and all I see is Fat Free, Sugar Free, Low Carb, no Salt, etc. I'm like damn, not everyone is on a freakin diet! But it's easy for me to say that because I'm slim. I was chubby when I was younger and I got teased a lot and it's hard. I grew up and I can see that people still have something about my weight and I'm slim. You can never win!!What people really need to realize is that they need to be happy with themselves. My best friend is a BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) and she's sexier than a lot of my slimmer friends. Why? Because she's comfortable about who she is and she works with what she has.

i'll tell you why : being overweight or FAT is looked-down upon now. In case you forgot, we arent living in a century where overweight women/men were thought to be beautiful. An inch or two of fat and people scrunch their faces and dont even give u a second look. i know tht being thin is not good either. but in our current world, thin is beautiful. Being an overweight person myself, only i know how depressing life is. U look in the mirror and u see bulges here and there. Then images of thin women [NOT super-SKINNY models!!] come in to your mind. I dont even have the mood to go out and enjoy with my friends after i look in the mirror and see my stomach jutting out a little and my butt shoving its way out. People could be obsessed with weight for many reasons. Perhaps, a more healthier life. Or a more trim body. Or to achieve their dreams. Just leave these people as they are.

Well I think it is partly to do with media image for some people, mostly those who are fine but think they are overweight. I myself am overweight, not obese but I have a belly and the reason I want to lose it is because it is uncomfortable and makes me feel self coinscious a lot more, plus it makes it harder to buy good fitting clothes and it makes you worry even when you have a partner that loves you. A lot of people don't need to worry about weight but for those who actually have some then it is a concern that weighs on your mind (heh) because losing it would just make your life more comfortable.

My excuse is that in losing it my life would be uncomfortable since I would have to exercise a lot more and limit what I eat, why make yourself uncomfortable to try to stop being uncomfortable?

I can understand your point. And fat free ingredients at Thanksgiving?? I don't think so. You have to enjoy yourself. I do think that there is a lot of pressure- especially on women- to be thin. But I think if we don't want to see people freaking out about dieting all the time and don't want to see so many eating disorders, we have to stop idolizing people with these perfect, usually unobtainable, bodies and start appreciating ourselves.

Well, that is "the perfect model" we get in the magazines, or TV, or anywhere else. Wherever you turn you see just skinny girls, who probably don't even eat, if you ask me. Anyone who is overweight, what ever that means today, is just too dumb, lazy and god knows what else. That is "IN" these days, most people act like that, because they feel they won't be accepted if they are not what everyone expect them to be. Not many people dare to be themselves, to be different than those ******* you see everywhere, they just do what they are told, completely blindly. It's nice to know that there are other normal people, who are not fashion slaves and snobs, because, to me, that really kills all the joy of life.

The important thing is to be who you are, you cannot change the world, or the way other people treat themselves. You cannot change their attitude, find people who are more like you, don't worry about your friends who are all about not eating.

So far I've noticed that thous who have a problem with it? Have a problem with it. Like someone who thinks another person is too fat for them, is more than likely larger than their recommend wait.
But then there are people who really have to take better care of themselves for a variety of reasons some too skinny to fat drink to much eat toomuch not enough of this too much of that. Bahumbug. Just give me a smoke and a pancake and I'll be on my way. lol

I attribute alot of it on media and the society we live in. All the celebrities are rail-thin and all the models and people considered to be the "beautiful" people are all thin. That's what girls grow up thinking they have to look like these days. Glad it was much less like that when I was growing up. Too much media focus on all that crap.
You can come to my house this Thanksgiving...we have the big roasted turkey, stuffing, cream-style corn (made with real butter and cream), broccoli and cheese casserole, cranberry jelly, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, and pie for dessert. All homemade with all the fattening ingredients!!
