For somewhere a bit different why not try Madeira. The islands are really beautiful, though they are subtropical so no snow there. There'd be lots to do though- horse riding, dolphin watching, romantic sunset walks on the beach, diving... and every year they have what is officially the world's biggest firework display on New Year's Eve. So I think that it could be a very romantic destination for Christmas and the New Year. There are direct flights from the UK.

We spent Christmas in Riga, Latvia and it was wonderful. We had lots of snow as well. The old city is full of cobbled streets and little alleyways and is very romantic. The park in the centre of the old town is festooned with lanterns in the shapes of stars hanging in the trees, a beautiful walk in the dark with the snow falling.
On Christmas Day the whole town seemed to be out. I loved that, families from Grandma down to the little kiddies were all out doing things. There was a little ice skating rink and a lovely Christmas market too.
It really was one of the most magical Christmas's I have had and made all the more special because of the real feeling of the tradition that they had and the snow!
Our hotel was wonderful and had a huge Christmas tree in their courtyard and served an amazing Christmas dinner.
I would highly recommend it. If you would like to see pictures please email me and I will send you the link.

Now this might not be an obvious one but Germany. I fly for a living and spend a lot of time in Germany and have spent a lot of time at Christmas.
Dusselfdorf, Stuttgart and Hamburg are all great, they have traditional Christmas Markets which are really romantic.
In Dusseldorf you can go to the market, drink Gluvein (don't know if spelling is right!!) and go Ice Skating.
Its really romantic and lovely. Hope you find somewhere.

Granada in Spain, with the Alhambra, and the Sierra Nevada, which may have snow on, depends on year. There's a local festival on 2nd jan, and Spanish Christmas is 6th jan with a big parade through centre of town in the evening. So Christmas (25th Dec) is fairly quiet.

Scotland - but then I would say that wouldn't I since I live here.
If you want to be sure of snow then you should head to the north of Scotland - very romantic indeed.
I would suggest the areas around Fort William or Glencoe - or (if you dont mind a longer journey to get there) the Isle of Skye.
Enjoy your trip

How about Paphos, Cyprus.
There is usually snow on the mountains and there is a winter sports centre at Troodos. I can't guarantee there will be enough snow for ski-ing though.
