replace it with a positive habit. giving up smoking? exercise when the urge is great. swearing? snap a big rubber band on your wrist when you do. you get the idea- good luck!!

Smoking, drinking, drugs and overeating may be addictions that are way harder to overcome then just a bad habit. To stop a bad habit, identify the habit, find something you want toreplace it with and then watch yourself. You can use little things like a rubberband around your wrist that you snap each time you use foul language, then replace it with something more appropriate. In general, it will take you a few days to weeks to quit a bad habit. Also, enlist help from your friends to make you aware of the bad habit.

I stopped the tobacco thing by cutting back one a day until I quit, it worked great. But to quit anything you are going to have to find a reason and that reason has got to be bigger than your problem. I was on the verge of throat cancer, I found a way to quit. If you are on the verge of something bad happening come up with something that will motivate you to quit. Find a reason to quit that is worth more than the habit, mine was life itself, how about yours!!

This is definitely a different thing to do for all. I have heard many people saying the common idea of diverting your attention to other activities. But i can understand how difficult it is to do so. What is most important is a positive mindset that you can do what you want to and how you go about doing it.
