The Soviets and germany signed a pact in 1938 .
When Hitler invaded Poland in 1939 he had arranged with Stalin that the russians could invade from the east at the same time thus forcing the Polaes to fight on two fronts.
When Poland was defeated Russia occupied some land in the east and Germany had the rest.
In 1941 Hitler launched a surprise attack in Russia which had been his intention from the start.
Russia then became an ally of Britain and eventually of the USA when they were forced into the war in December 1941

In the beginning, Hitler and Stalin signed a Non-Agression Pact--they would not attack each other. But Hitler broke the pact and invaded Russia anyway, causing Russia to join the Allies. Fortunately, Hitler came up against the same foe Napolean did--the Russian winter.

They were "allies" at one point prior to the war (non-aggression pact) but then went to war with each other anyway. Hitler invaded Russia, hoping to do away with the Slavic Communists but failed miserably.

And I don't think the Russians were "for" Hitler in the first place.

russia (ussr) and germany had a non- agression pact signed in 1939 - thus neither agreed to declare war on each other

in 1941 on the morning of june 21st hitler attacked russia by surprise thus triggering 'operation barbarossa' which if successful would end in the capture of all russian territory

to say stalin (ussr) was an ally is too strong a term, however they did have a non-aggression pact known as the molotov-ribbentrop accord which was broken by hitler by invading

the agreement was that russia could do what it wanted in eastern europe - russia declared war on finland (winter war on 1939), demanded land off romania (was given moldova) and seized all the baltic states of estonia, lithuania and latvia and was also given land in eastern poland. while germany was allowed take western poland, denmark, norway, luxemborg, belgium, holland, czech republic, yugosalavia, greece and france

this agreement ensured neither would attack each other while both tried to create and empire in east and west europe

At first Nazi Germany signed a non-aggression pact with Russia, basically a I won't mess with you, you don't mess w/me deal. As WW2 progressed and Hitler's army was having great success subjugating most of Europe (except Great Britain), Hitler got a little too full of himself and started believing all of the "Master Race" and manifest destiny hype, he broke their agreement by advancing his troops into Western Russia. Stalin responded by retreating most of his troops into the heart of Russia where the Germans found out the hard way that winter in Russia was no picnic.Hitler refused to listen to the advice of his military commanders and pressed on into Russia where most of his forward troops were decimated either by the Red Army or frozen to death on the icy steppes of the USSR.

Yes, they were on the same side in the beginning and then Hitler invaded Russia.
The Russians were also allied with Japan until the very end of the war, after the U.S. dropped the atom bomb then they invaded the northern islands of Japan, stole lots of machinery from factories in China and Japan, and still occupy the northern Islands, and by the way still have land they stole from China.

Russia and Germany signed a non-aggression pact before the war began. However, Hitler invaded Russia, so that pact was broken.

The Soviet Union was an ally of Nazi Germany through 1930, and assisted Germany in dividing up Poland in 1939. That alliance ended with the German invasion of Russia, Operation Barbarossa, in 1941.
