It brings on stage a chorus of top-hatted women, one of whom turns out to be playing the German chemist Fritz Haber, who invented TNT. This, Harrison's production helpfully indicates by bringing on stage a box labeled TNT in the lettering-logo of the National Theatre, as though some subversive stage manager has realized that here is precisely the script with which to dynamite the building from within.

Discovered would be a better term for it.
According to wiki, it was discovered by a german chemist by the name of Joseph Wilbrand.

Some people are claiming that Alfred Nobel discovered it. He invented dynamite. Well, actually, he invented a safer form of dynamite. Dynamite is not TNT. Dynamite uses nitroglycerin.
