This is going to sound weird, but I left the box to my powdered Tide detergent open, and a couple of days later, on the inside of the lid, was a blob of a bright orange cheesy-looking substance. It was about the diameter of a quarter, but thick and kind of mounded up. Very gross. Any idea whether this was caused by an insect, and if so, what kind? If it helps, my laundry room is in the basement. Eeew.

I work in pest control and have never heard of this. However, it could be the feces of something. Cut the lid off and throw it away.

basements are damp, could be a form of slime mold. Not caused by insects.
