Clearly there are problems you have with him, we're going to call that hating him. Also, there are things you like about him, since you once did want to date him and are still contacting him sometimes, we'll call that loving him.

The problem is we think we either love someone, or we hate them. When we get to the point of breaking up with someone we figure we must hate them (or at least not love them anymore). But it isn't true. Most of the time we're still feeling deeply about them, but we've discovered problems that overall make the relationship unworkable.

Sit and think about how much you love him, and think about the problems that drove you out of the relationship. Think about why you feel the way you do about loving and not loving him. Allow yourself to experience both types of feeling towards him, and you'll get a better perspective on the whole thing. It still takes time to get completely clear, of course, but so long as you attempt to deny one side of your feelings you'll always feel out of control (or like you have two personalities).

Knowing that you care for someone that you don't want to be with will help you to better understand yourself and your own needs.

Good luck.

Don't do that. If you break up with a guy then it's over. Don't toy with a poor guys heart.

Just try to remember that indecision is WORSE than no decision. Then decide on that.
