I live in a condo. There are four flats on my floor, and four doors. One door is near the staircase, and their doorbell is right above the stairs, just lift your hand and ring. My door is the furthest on the left, and the doorbell is on the left, on the wall, the furthest from the staircase. Yet everyone who comes up - Jehovah witnesses, peddlers with goods, marketing people, you name it, get up and straight to my door to ring the bell! Interestingly, once they rang mine, they do not bother with others and depart. Why don't they ring the most convenient door, the one near the staircase? Why mine?

the way solicitation works is based on marketing principles. you always start at the top floor and start from the farthest door.

The reason you do this is because it looks like you have purpose and those doors and people you passed along the way have a much less % of seeing you soliciting. this is why they go to your door first.

Probably yours is the most inviting from the outside. You could simply put a sign up asking for people to go to the other doors.

Maybe they KNOW you are home?????? Some people just have an eerie sense of this no matter how much we try to act like we are not.

Or maybe they tried the others...no answer. Maybe you should move to the one closest to the staircase. :)

It seems likely that the Jehovah's Witnesses have already knocked on the doors of the neighbors, and have merely returned to those which had previously been "not at home".
