to NOT use a living Christmas Tree? I have used artificial trees for years. Besides, real trees cost too much and I would be taking more from the environment.

Not wanting to rain on the parade, but have you considered the impact to the environment for an artificial tree?
There is metal, paints, the plastic/nylon needles that are dyed, the box it is shipped in, printing ink on the box, instructions.
The use of an artificial tree yields a big impact to the atmosphere when all the Volatile Organic Compounds are discharged into the air, or wastewater streams.
Now, you balance that versus the impact on the tree grower using fertilizers, gasoline to travel to/from the grove, annual maintenance on the grove, freight to haul it to the sales lot, the space it takes in a landfill until it is composted 100%.
Me, I use an artificial tree and get a pine candle to burn around it to generate that nice forest smell.

I grew up down the road from a Christmas tree farm and they had many different sections of the farm with trees of different ages and stages of growth. So by the time all of the trees for Christmas were sold, there was a whole other plot of trees getting ready for the following year . . . and more planted every year. It was a real science how they did it and even though some were being cut every year, there were always new ones coming up. To me, even though I'm one of the biggest tree hugging environmentalists around, a real Christams tree is very important to the season and important to me to have in our home and I feel good about buying from a tree farm which is so committed to renewability. Also, when the season is over and the tree needs to be taken out, we put it back in the woods where it breaks down and goes back to the Earth. Other communities have disposal programs where the trees are chipped and used as mulch and not just put in a landfill.

My family has had an artificial Christmas tree for as long as i can remember. True, it smells like it's been stored in the garage for a year, but i'm sure that if you really wanted it to smell like a living Christmas tree, you could store it in the house somewhere where it doesn't smell funny, and then go cut off a small branch of a tree to get the smell.
Real trees eventually die so then you would have to sweep up needles, and there is a risk of fire with all the dry needles around.
And with an artificial tree you buy it once, and then every year you have to spend 0 dollars.

Artificial trees are awful! They don't have that great pine tree smell and they look ridiculous!! I live in PA and we happen to have a lot of tree farms around here and those are the trees that are used for such occasions... We don't run into the woods or people's properties and chop down trees... Is this not something other areas do?? I think people should consider doing something like this rather than using fake trees...

In 40 years, our family has only ever had three living trees. My mother decided that living trees where more beautiful when left in nature.
We purchase a new artificial tree once every 6 years or so, when the tree starts looking raggedy.
We donate the money we would spend on a tree to World Vision to help our sponsored children's villages.
To our family, this is a better celebration of the spirit of giving.

You wouldn't be taking from the environment if you plant the tree. All the potted live Christmas trees are farmed not dug up from the wild.
Have you considered what goes into making an artificial tree? That is a use of resources too. In the end they go into a landfill and don't degrade.
At least dead real trees can be made into compost.

In 46 years we have only had 1 real tree and that was because I was in the hospital on Christmas Day and my relatives brought me a small tree. The rest were artificial.

I am a native New Yorker and my heart breaks every year that the Rockefeller tree goes up.
It is a sin that such majestic tree's that have been providing clean air for years on end meet their end this way.
What a waste, but I digress...
To answer your question, yes, I would be willing to use an artificial tree, however, I'm not one to decorate for the holidays. I'd rather put the money I'd spend on decorations toward a gift for someone that I care about.

Real trees are a renewable resource and for every one cut down, many are planted. I emphacize planted, because trees are not harvested from forests.
As to the giant tree in Rockefeller Center, those are donated from private property and have usually come towards the end of their lifespan.

I don't put up a Christmas tree at all. I have done a lot of research on it and this is something that I've read
Jeremiah 10:2 KJV Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3* For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4* They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
This clearly states that God does not want us to put up a tree. He says the customs of the people are vain. I know people say they are still going to do it anyway because it's a family tradition and they don't want to break away from that!!! They also say they don't worship the tree so it's ok. But God did not say anything about worshipping the tree at all in this verse.
The problem with a lot of Christians is they pick and choose what they want to believe. They figure if they modify it a certain way it doesn't matter, but it does. If you know what is in Gods Word then you need to abide by it, not change it this can be very harmful.
I do not judge people who have trees a lot of people don't know what the Bible says so they continue their traditions.
Your not going to go to Hell for having a tree. I don't believe it glorifies God in anyway so I believe he would just be displeased by the action.
I am a Christian and try to abide by everything I know in the Bible. I am a sinner like you I just want to spread the word for the people that may be unaware.
May God Bless You!!!!
So I guess if you had to Choose artificial would be better lol.
