Hi, everyone!! I have a problem,
I'm trying to learn to sing..and now my vocal coach has told me to choose a song. I know the importance of choosing the right one, but there are so many!!
I want a power ballad or a "light" rock song with lots of emotions, not about -I found mý love and now we are going to marry- song. I'm 21 so it has to suit me. Do you have any suggestions?? I'm not good, but I don't want anything that is too smooth and boring either. It doesn't matter if the song is old or new!

Don't pick a power ballad; those were made popular by Whitney, Mariah, and Celine, and if you've ever seen American Idol, you know the judges rip anyone who tries. Stay away from anything too mainstream.

Are you going to be singing this without instruments? Or do you need to go out and buy sheet music or a tape/CD? Make sure the song you choose is available in the selected medium.

I personally would go with something older; some of the new songs are all over the place in terms of vocals. Something simple, like 'Cheek to Cheek' or 'Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered', would be nice and pretty easy. Or pick something from the 50s and 60s. And don't sing "Closer" by NIN, lol.

John Mayer has good songs. And not all of the love for ever and ever type. "waiting for the world to change", "no such thing", "belief"
There is a band called Hootie and the blowfish and they have pretty nice songs too "Only lonely", "Use me"...
Check out Sugababes too. They are more on the pop side but, they have pretty great songs: "Ugly", "Follow me home", "Overload", "Round round", "Stronger", "More than a million miles"
