Depends on what you want to give and how much you can afford. Income isn't the only measure.

per year or just for December? If its per year then like 2-3 percent. If for December then I'd say, if you can afford it, 50%. Just because there are loads of other things to Christmas then just presents and its a time where people feel like they should be having fun, so why not spend some extra and make it actually fun. Big tree, good food, great presents and nice decoration, as well as some good entertainment. I'd rather spend a little extra and make it a special time than save money and it be just a normal day.
It would be cool if you could make just any day like that but it doesn't feel the same, plus not doing stuff for Christmas can sometimes be depressing and that sucks. But most importantly you shouldn't spend over your means, people shouldn't get in debt for Christmas, because that will spoil it too.

I'm not one to suggest how much to spend as a rule, but I usually spend about 3 percent every Christmas season. I make sure I plan my shopping trips so I won't fall victim to impulse buys.

i think that you should get them what they want regardless of the price and you shouldnt put a price tag on anything, christmas or not but if you cant then remember its the thought that counts so dont feel pressured, remember christmas is about time spent with family and friends not how much you spend on them
