I study architecture and sometimes they ask me to draw some landscapes, buildings, cars and even people. I hate freehand sketching because I find it difficult and my work looks like crap.

The book "Drawing on the right side of the brain" will help a lot, making it much easier and better.

Nixie is absolutely correct. Practice is the key here. Keep a small sketch pad or tablet with you and practice drawing things in close proximity when you have free time. I start of with small things like coffee mugs or flowers and move on to bigger things. This will help hone in your hand-eye coordination so that you can manipulate your drawings to look the way you want them to.

the only thing you can do to be better in freehand sketching, is practice, practice, practice, practice.

you'll need it. or you can always ask these nice people at conceptart.org forum, where you can post your sketches for critique and advise

Start with doodling, it helps you get practice. The 'style' can come after you get comfortable just sketching. Be relaxed about it, that way you don't get too tightened up in the hand.
