Who says they were more successful then than any other time in recent history?

Family problems are (hopefully) a small part of the general human condition. 1970 vs 2007 doesn't make much difference.

Not only were divorce rates especially high, but so was inflation. The economy was a mess during the 1970s - when I went form grade school through college.

I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone say anything was especially successful in the 1970s.

If you can believe this, less governmental greed, When your parents raised you in a single income home and still could afford school clothes and fuel oil for the winter time were happier. Now both spouses working and cashing in your Christmas club for heat seems to bring us down...

You picked a bad decade to compare to. The divorce rate peaked at 22.8 divorces per 1,000 married couples in 1979.
