I agree with you very much! As an IT veteran, I see people spending vast amounts of time getting their computers to work and resolving software compatibility problems. Computers are great tools for wasting a lot of time very quickly.
With a few button clicks, you can send an e-mail message and commit vast resources of other employees to answer your questions. Amazing!

We need to find a balance, and that is the most difficult part. How to infuse technology, and the personal attention that customers deserve.
I've worked in the medical field for 20 years, and saw it go from handwriting all requisitions, and running them to various "lifts" throughout the hospital, (talk about writer's cramp on a busy day, lol) If the orders were STAT, we had to write and run the req, then run back to our unit and call the department, and tell them there was a STAT order on the lift, they would then have to go get it, process it, and do the order. Computers have sped up the process, so that patients get STAT test done actually STAT. The test is entered in the computer by the Unit Secretary or Nurse, you make a phone call, and that, is that. It was so much easier and faster for me to get my work done, that I could handle 3 nurses stations, 10 to 25 admissions per day, and many of them would have several pages of typewritten orders, that I had to do as well as answer the phones, and communicate with the Dr.s, Nurses, and all other hospital staff.
So I think computers do lessen the work load in many applications, a lot of it depends on the efficiency of the system, and the designer of the program, and whether or not your Company is willing to purchase more user friendly software. It is out there if you look for it.

I understand where you're coming from, Believe it or not, there are people in the world that still use old school people skills to get the job done. I for one think it is a little more personable to pick up a phone, or arrange a meeting with a person rather than email or instant message them. but that's just me. I think these big corporations look at the amount of productivity they can get out of an employee if they email instead of call, or instant message instead of talk face to face. Sad but true

Because of technology you can process more information faster. You can tailor plans to better meet the needs of your customers and process claims faster and more reliably and cheaper. Technology lets the little guys compete against the bigger corporations.
There are now more insurance companies than ever before.
You are looking at the half empty side of the glass. I suppose you want to give up the telephone too and meet everyone face to face?
