This is billionaire Warren Buffet's dilemma, and he is publicly complaining. His taxes are less than his receptionist's taxes. He feels that this is unfair and has called for a halt. The current tax breaks are slated for review by Congress very soon.

It is a common complaint that the tax cuts given by President Bush benefit the rich more than they do anyone else. The Middle Class and the Poorer people have not benefited as much as the Richer Classes.

President Bush has stated, "Why shouldn't the rich be given tax cuts? After all, they pay more taxes!" But there is some indication that this isn't true, with Corporations and Millionaires using high-priced attorneys to find loopholes and with many Corporations moving operations to offshore locations to avoid taxation.

Should this inequality be changed and the tax cuts revised? Should more help be given to the average American family and less to millionaires like Buffet?

As if Bush is going to say that we should pay more. He represents his own interests. Percentage wise, the middle class gets hurt the most.

The rich do not share middle class values. Bush does not.
I think they laugh at middle class values.

Never again will I be duped into voting for someone like Bush or in his group.

6 % on everyone. doesnt matter if you own microsoft or dont own a damn thing.. same goes for any company who buys goods from china. if you buy from china there should be no tax loopholes or incentives for doing business with a communist country. these millionaires dont seem to be happy with their money they all want more. Mean while most of the country is losing their jobs, their homes, cars etc.The poor will never benefit .. I live off social security disability. My increase was only 20 bucks a month. All the while my gas bill went up by 8%, my electric went up 4%, my water bill up 7%. I also hate that gvnmt officials get free health insurance. they should have to pay just like we do. lets see them try to pay for meds at the pharmacy or 10% of every Dr visit.

Taxes should be based on income. I could agree that philanthropist millionaires deserve tax breaks, but if I make $190,000 a year, is it really fair that I pay the same amount in taxes as some single mother with 3 kids making $25,000 a year?

No.. Support Flat tax, the only FAIR way of taxation (Yuck.. I dont mean that taxation to begin with is fair). That way everyone pays the same percentage. Millionaires pay more in dollar amount because they make more. DUH!

PS.. Note to Sahara.. Youre going to have to add Gore, Nader, Kerry.. etc to the same bunch as Bush, cheney etc.
Theyre all filthy rich and find the best ways to keep THEIR money away from the hands of the greedy public.

I'm for the Fair Tax (i.e. consumption tax). Basically, it would repeal the income tax altogether and instead place sales taxes on products purchased. That means if you earn more because you want to save more, you won't be penalized (whereas the current system does penalize you). Additionally, those with greater means will pay more taxes if they consume more. In the end, it would be a wash as you would have more money to offset the more expensive prices, but you would have additional freedom to pay less in taxes by consuming less (and saving more).

Yes I think they should have to pay for more taxes. President Bush is only looken out for his own butt. Why should they get a tax break? Most will hide most of their debts or even make up something to get a tax break........

Um, his "Administrative Assistants" makes nearly 1/2 million a year so I don't feel so bad for him/her.

Funny how many people here thinks fair has anything to do with life.

Corporations don't pay taxes people, no ceo/cfo is going to the board of directors/shareholders and say "sorry, your profits are down because of what we payed in taxes." Their taxes go up and they either lay people off &/or raise the price for their services or product. Thus hurting people who aren't weathly. Trickle down economics.

Also, Buffett gave away the bulk of his fortune earlier this year or late last year, so maybe he doesn't have the assets in play anymore.

If we must pay taxes, it should be equally assessed based on income. The wealthier should pay more by the simple fact that they earn more. That is fair, if taxes are fair.
