This is a young player who is by far one of the best center fielders in the game....If the Yankees want to keep the team young this is a perfect player to go after in the free agency market..

Tori Hunter has been around for some time. The Yankee have enough guys in the early to mid 30's. They don't need another. The Yankees need pitching more than anything else. Their next priority would be a 3rd baseman. Tori Hunter is a good player but he's no where near a franchise type player.

I think the Twins are going to take their best shot at keeping Torii Hunter in Minnesota. As a small market team that's run on a very tight budget; the Twins aren't able to hand out the multi-year, mega-million dollar deals that other teams give out routinely.

However, Hunter has become a franchise player for the Twins and I think Minnesota's front office is going to do what it can to keep him with the Twins.

Carl Pohlad is the ninety-something year old owner of the Twins. The man is in failing health and it's no secret that his two sons, Bob and Jim Pohlad, have been propping up the old guy for some time now. They've more or less assumed day to day control of their father's businesses. Including the Twins organization. So, if Hunter is offered a long term deal, it will have to be approved by the Pohlads.

I really think the Twins need to be thinking long term. The team's new downtown Minneapolis ballpark is scheduled to open in 2010. They need to be locking up their key players to long term deals that will provide the nucleus of a solid ballclub going into the new ballpark.

Torii Hunter is not young and I would suspect that at 32, he is at or past his peak. The Yankees still have Johnny Damon in center field locked up for another couple of years part of a 4 yr/52 mil deal. Hunter would probably be an upgrade over Damon, if only because he is a gold glove CF, but I don't see the Yankees shelling out another 13 mil/yr + deal for another aging center fielder.

First they will no longer over spend for 32 year old talent, he is requesting a 5 year deal, you do not want a franchise CF that is 37 at the end of his deal, the wheels are gone by the end of the contract so you are paying someone big money for very little production. Secondly, Torii does not want that pressure cooker, he may be willing to take on the Boston press but no way does he want anything to do with NY. He has said that he would prefer to stay in the MidWest or the South, I would not be surprised to see him go back to the Twins, or end up in Texas or Chicago.

The Yankees outfielders are the best thing they have going. No need for Hunter and as many have said he's been around and is already well known. The Yankees need another dominating pitcher.

Are you kidding me? Torii Hunter young? You must be thinking of a different Torii Hunter, we are talking about the one from the Twins, correct? The guy that's 31 or 32 years old? That Torii Hunter?

Anyways, he'll probably end up in Chicago with the White Sox. He's said he likes the city and the players along with the manager.

Go SOX.

Since they no longer have to pay A-Rod the Yankees have many options, and the acquisition of Hunter would be a good one.

No. Damon has quite a few years left on his contrat. Besides, if the Yankees were to do anything regarding centerfield they would simply move Cabrera there.

They'll go after Santana instead of Hunter...if they get rid of Abreu or Damon, that might happen.-Matsui is safe for now.
