Ricky Henderson is of course the best base runner and leadoff hitter of all time. I doubt anyone will ever come close to breaking Henderson’s stolen base record but the first time I saw Ellsbury beat out was looked to be a routine ground ball I couldn’t help but think of Ricky.

Just saying he's going to be a great leadoff hitter and he's really fast. Never been thrownout yet. Although in Boston he won't steall all that many bases. Henderson along has stolen more bases than the entire Red Sox organization has in total.

bdough15: You get numbest answer. Ellsbury comes in to play defense for Manny in the late innings. The only reason he moves from CF is because Crisp is outstanding. Anyway I said reminds me of a YOUNG Henderson. Look at Henderson ROOKIE stats before saying I'm wrong.

I can see where you are coming from, he can hit for average and he did have 47 stolen bases at Pawtucket his last year there. I don't believe Ellsbury has anywhere near the power that Henderson had but overall a nice comparison.

He reminds me more of Scott Posednick. Really fast, decent on base percentage with no defense. Henderson and Sizemore both have power. I don't think Ellsbury will ever hit more than 10-12 home runs a year.

Whoa! Slow down there, Sparky. He was impressive but a Ricky Henderson comparison?!? Henderson is a freakin' Hall of Famer! Just say no and put the stuff down.

You are not serious are you? Henderson was a power hitting, high On-Base, base stealing defense playing OF when he was called up and throughout most of his career. Ellsbury has to be taken out late in games for defensive reasons. Give him a few years to get better but he is closer to Sizemore than he will ever be to Rickey. Rickey was one of a kind, baseball could only ever handle one Rickey.

If he's like Ricky Henderson, then expect him to pack up and move every 2 years.

I agree with the Sizemore comparison more. Either way, he's awesome and I'm hoping the Sox can hold on to him.

I think his skills are more like Grady Sizemore. If he stays healthy, e should have one heck of a career. Hope Boston can keep him on their roster for many years.
