Are you talking about the American or the English civil war? The sides in the American one were the Union (the north) and the Confederates (the south).
In the English civil war it was the Roundheads and the Cavaliers. The Roundheads were for the parliament and the Cavaliers were for the king

The two sides in the English Civil War are generally just called Cavaliers [the King's Army] and Roundheads [Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army - Parliament].
The English Civil War was a fight between the Commons [Parliament] and the King. The Commons won and thus the House of Commons is the most powerful and highest court in the land.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
You can see the statue of Oliver Cromwell outside the House of Commons. The Statue of King Charles One is at the top end of Whitehall next to Trafalgar Square. You can also see where the King got beheaded [Behold the head of a traitor] in whitehall outside the Banqueting House.

So far everybody but one person seems to have forgotten that there was a War of The Roses, fought between the forces of the Houses of York and Lancaster. That is I believe the first true English Civil War. On the other hand there's been so many civil wars that its difficult to count them all and some are still ongoing.

During the first English Civil War (the Anarchy of 1135 to 1154), one side supported the Empress Matilda and the other side supported king Stephen and his wife (also called Matilda). After 19 years of pointless bloodshed and struggle there was no clear winner, but Stephen agreed to recognise the Empress's son (Henry) as next in line to the throne - he became king Henry II.
But you probably mean the Spanish Civil War, or the Civil War in Sudan.

For the English civil war the terms Cavaliers & Roundheads were coined much later. At the time they were Royalists and Ironsides or Parliamentarians.

If it's the English Civil War, of course, the answer is Cavaliers and Roundheads.
