So many people this halloween is about Satan. However, I was watching a documentary on how Halloween came about in America. It wa sbrought over to the U.S. by the Irish. But the speaker for the documentary didn't say anything about halloween being related to Satan. I am a religious person and I don't see the harm in carving and pumpkin and letting your child go to a few houses to trick or treat. I don't think that is worshiping Satan in any way. My parents allowed me to do it.

When I stopped at Walgreens on my way to work this moring, the lady behind me asked our cashier why he didn't dress up for Halloween. He said that it is a satanic holiday and if you dress up you are blessed by the devil. I don't know if he thinks this because of Asian culture or what. He is Asian and I honestly do not know what that culture believes as far as halloween goes. Anyway, what's ya'lls opnion on the matter? I think some people take the holiday a little far though.

Satanism is wired enough to appropriate, adapt and misuse any holiday, religion or ideology - even the political movements. If you take a look at the satanist symbols, you will see all kind of symbolic: Christian, Buddhist, Nazi, Communist... but it does not mean that all these ideologies and religions are satanist and celebrate Satan. So, don't worry. Halloween have its roots in pagan culture and is rather connected with the end of fruitful autumn and harvest, than with some evil. Concerning vandalism, it happens during the football games, New Year's Eves, or even with no reason a tall. It is all up to people. Nothing that can make children laughing cannot be bad as such, so go out tonight and have a lot of fun. Me too. Happy Halloween!

One of the answerers used Halloween to bash Catholics about where their feast days come from, you should really have a look at Christmas considering it was once the Winter Solstice and the celebration of the birth of the Roman God of the Sun.

We should have a day when we pray for those who have passed away and it doesn't matter when so why not use a date that already had that message and incorporate into into our religion. Religiously, the most important date in the Christian calendar is Easter, Christmas has become culturally more important lately.

Halloween is NOT a Satanic holiday. Now to get this straight, pagans and wiccans are NOT devil worshipers. You have to believe there is a satan to be a devil worshiper. With that being said, halloween is a PAGAN holiday, which we call Samhain.

Like you saw on that documentary, Halloween was first a Celtic festival named Samain.
When the Christians came to Ireland and England to evangelized thos countries, they declared that Nov 1st is All Saint Day, in that way they tried to thwart the pagan festival.
And they also tell that people who still celebrate the pagan festival were celebrating a satanic festival. In that way, they scared people, and tried to gain people to the Christian holiday.

Nowadays, many catholic poeple don't try to know why their catholic holyday exist. If they did, they'll learn that most of them exist mainly to thwart pagan holidays.

But I don't think that "pagan" means "satan".

I think costumes and candy and pumpkin carving are all harmless fun ways to celebrate the holiday. I do know that it originated as the day before All Saints Day, I believe once known as All Hallow's Eve, in which there were evil spirits about, possibly goblins or ghosts, and that is why the jack-o-lantern was first made to scare away the spooks from your doorway!

Whether or not the holiday originated as a day to worship Satan, many satanic cults do hold Halloween to be a holy day. Also, Halloween originated as a pagan holiday, and many of the practices of Halloween have their origins in these pagan practices, and as such many Christians view this day as not pleasing to God. Why would a Christian want to dress up as ghosts or witches or devils or monsters? Why would they want to celebrate death (that's what it seems like when they have haunted houses or graveyards set up in the yards).

I've heard a lot of people say that Halloween is for the kids. Well, I don't know about where you live, but around here, it seems like a day to feed the blood-lusts of adults. There are a lot of haunted houses, hayrides, etc. in this area, but all the announcements about them say "Not sutiable for children under 12 or for those easily scared." Now, how is that for children? At least when I was young, haunted houses were appropriate for kids--ghosts popping out to say boo, spiders, silly witches, clumsy monsters, stuff that wasn't gory or overly scary. Now it's all gore and really disturbing stuff. That's why it seems satanic.

People associate halloween with the devil because they are ignorant and can't be bothered to research things before spewing out things that aren't true. Pagans don't even believe in the devil.. the devil is a mythological Christian figure.

I believe that I am a good Christian woman and that there is nothing wrong with my little boy going out tonight, dressed at Batman, and getting treats from our neighbors. I respect that some people think its un-holy, but I'm with you on the matter. Its just harmless fun.

Of course, they won't say it deals with Satan. However, with the Christian world view, anything not of God is of Satan, and Halloween is definitely not of God.
