I've been barefoot for over ten years, and I've been to many restaurants barefoot, from fast food places to an occasional top quality, fancy restaurant. It's never been a problem in any of them; I've never even SEEN a 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' sign here in the Netherlands, people just don't care what you are or aren't wearing on your feet.

I do have the advantage as a woman that bare feet look better with a skirt than they do with dress pants; some of the fancier places might have disliked bare feet on a guy. But just like we females can get away with dresses that have just a strap on the shoulder where guys are supposed to wear long sleeves, the same goes for footwear; we can go around exposing our feet (sandals or bare feet really doesn't make a difference on this side of the pond) where guys are expected to wear closed shoes.

Btw, it is NOT gross, unhealthy or dangerous to go barefoot. Feet get very tough very quickly, our skin is made to keep pathogens out, and feet are fully washable. Foot fungus needs a shoe to grow, it's very rare in barefoot populations. And germs aren't any more likely to jump onto the foot from the sole of a bare foot than from the sole of a shoe, or more likely to jump from the exposed skin on top of a bare foot than from the exposed skin in a sandalled foot. Even in the US, in spite of persistent myths, there are NO health department laws requiring shoes; stores and restaurants may set their own dress codes and it may seem 'all' places have a sign, but in practice, many places don't have any anti-barefoot policy.

Have you looked down at the floors in a restaurant. Gross. I wouldn't go bare foot unless you are wishing to get athlete's foot or worse.

yeah. it was a dirty little restaurant. my friend brought her hamster. and let it run on the floor for a second. i don't go there anymore because i don't want to die of bacterias, caused by small rodent and bare feet.
