Our country was named "Philippines", with a PH because it was named after King Philip II of Spain.

It was called "Filipino" because of the Spaniards who conquered our country for 333 years. They called it "Islas Filipinas".

Here's from a site:
"The country was named after King Philip II of Spain in 1543, twenty-two years before Spain established a permanent colonial presence here."

"1536 Philippines named after Charles V's son (later Philip II of Spain) by Spanish navigator Ruy López de Villalobos."

"Rather than Tagalog, it's Spanish that's to blame. When the Philippines was a Spanish colony, they called it the 'Islas Filipinas'. The Americans changed it to the English Philippine Islands or Philippines, but the Spanish term for one of the people from there stuck."
