If it near your ear it could be a blocked parotid gland due to calcification or by the formation of a stone. Your parotid gland is a salivary gland which is located in you upper cheek area.

Sounds like lymphadenopathy (a swollen lymph node). Our lymph system works to cleanse our bodies of the bad stuff. So - especially if it's sore - that's probably a good thing. You could have an infection this lymph node is trying to fight. If it continues to come up and become swollen I would probably go to your doc and have him check it out. He will probably just write you a script for some antibiotics and see that it goes away for good.

Yep, I agree, it sounds like maybe you have a blocked salivary gland. Sometimes a small peice of calcium can get into the gland then releases itself after a while.
I should see your doctor when it happens again.

I sounds like a swollen lymph node. If you have sinus issues, then they are draining and the lymph system helps to clean stuff like that out. Use heat compresses when it swells. You can get antibiotics to help clear up whatever infection you have.

It is a gland that is swelling up most likely at times that you are in contact with something you are allergic to. Take an antihistamine (like Benedryl) and see if that makes it go down.
