If you don't think you'll use it for anything graphically intense, then the laptop should work well for you. I tend to dislike integrated video, but in my case I'm generally going to do at least some level of gaming on the system.
Bumping up the memory would certainly be a nice enhancement, especially with MS Vista. It will run with 1GB, but seems more optimal at 2GB.

If you don't need it now, I would hold off until Black Friday. There will be tons of deals and sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I picked up a laptop 2 years ago for under $400 and I still use it.
In the next week or so, the black Friday ads will start appearing on the internet so you can start scouting ahead to figure out where would be the best place to go.
Check out this deal Wal Mart already has listedhttp://holiday.ri-walmart.com/?section=secret&utm_source=Walmartcom&utm_medium=POV1&utm_content=secret1&utm_campaign=holiday&povid=cat14503-env15844-module117144-lLink1

u probably we'll need to add more memory with a 1gig and 120 HD space.
If u could get a 2gig memory right now, u'll be set. I suggest u duoble the memoery to 2gig because with that amount of space, over time, u'll need all the memory u can get.
good buy though, for the price.

Vista doesn't run very well on 1gig RAM, if you can upgrade to 2gig relatively cheap than you should, otherwise, just keep background running programs and startup programs to a minimum, if you have Vista running along with MSN and a virus program, and a download program running this computer will be pushing it, to run much else.

BAD BUY, stick with that size maybe smaller. Core 2 duo. 2gig. 1.5 mhz or more. 1-2 Gig of ram. Wireless Card. (IBM is BEST for that) For Firewall buy Zonealarm 5/5 stars
AND STICK WITH XP PRO

Good buy, 1 gig of ram is good, 120 gig should be enough storage for pics, music, school documents...I'd see if they can downgrade to XP vista still has some bugs to fix...
