They had one bad year...................

It would be one thing if this was a franchise that had spent many years as a miserable wreck, but they were in the playoffs for several straight years (11? 12?) before last year.

As for the Stanley Cup's rightful place.............any team in the East will be going through Ottawa for that, and right now, I'm not liking anybody's chances too much.

A much improved situation is Philly as compared to last yuear. And it's not just the new guys doing it either. I'm not sure about the cup yet. That takes a determined team with great chemistry, strong leadership both on and off the ice and most of all players need to know just how far they have to be willing to go to win it. Usually that is learned by getting close to the big prize and losing. It's possible the long Flyer fan wait will be rewarded in the next couple of years.
I also still think the Sabres traded the wrong goalie. Lucky for Philly they did.

Well, they are playing well and the stinker of a season they had last year makes their start to this season seem like a ticket to the finals. But I am very cautious about the Flyers. Something always seems to trip them up. And I think the biggest obstacle to their 3rd Stanley Cup is Ed Snider.

But I do see some encouraging signs and some things that I'm concerned about. If they stay reasonably healthy and stick together as a team, and start to get hot around the last week of the regular season, then I'll start to entertain myself with thoughts of 1974-75.

Its too early for me to get excited.

Don't know about the Stanley Cup yet. It's early, so just enjoy the show and don't jinx them.

If you mean being singled out by the league, yes.

Certainly, Boulerice's play warranted some form of suspension (given they were up 7-2 at the time, if memory serves).

Jones, no way. Bergeron saw him coming and turned his back.

Downie? Please tell me when it became illegal to nail someone with their head down? If that's the case, where was the suspension for the hit on RJ Umberger last season? Downie got this because he supposedlly left his feet (though it appears it was after contact) and frankly, because he's a rookie.

I don't see it happening. True, they are better then last year, (how could they not be), but they are still not quite where they need to be for Lord Stanley's cup. They do have a good chance to win the division. They still need to put in a little more effort on the back-checking, as they coast far too much. They could stand to not take so many lazy dumb penalties (see lack of back-checking), and they need to stop dressing enforcer type players who have no brains. If they can crank it up a notch, they have a chance. It is no where near a lock.

First of all, as most have pointed out already, the Flyers really only had one bad season. Secondly, a big part of their success has been Biron and he can't stand on his head every night. Without some better D in front of him, Biron will wear down. I think they have a shot at the playoffs, but I just don't see a Cup this year.

They're back. I don't know about winning the Cup. They could win it. Its hard to say where any team will be in the end; the season is still young. They have easily looked like the best in the Atlantic, so far. I want them to win it. I think the true fans, the ones that watched all last year, deserve to see the Cup hoisted by the Flyers.

The hard fact is the the Penguins still arent playing good hockey yet they are still hanging around. When they get going like we all know they will they will come up and take the division. Sidney Crosby is the greatest talent to play the game. To just watch him is something special, even when he is not scoring he does things with the puck that Mario and the Great One could not do. When that team gets going and plays as they did against the Wild they are not going to be stopped. Its wayy to early to be predicting a team like the Flyers to win a cup, when the team across the state has more talent. and the team up the road in NJ has a very solid team aswell.

Green, that ad is hilarious.

But I think that they have a shot at it, but the cup's rightful place in the new NHL is in the south. specifically Carolina. You should know that.

Philly has as much a shot as anybody though, but you have to prove that you can beat Ottawa first. Carolina can do that (5-3) can you? I f the answer is yes, you stand a chance.

Very very difficult to go from worst to first... and championships usually come in steps. They're a good team but they will need to cut their teeth together for at least one more season before I'd call them contenders.
