All babies are different, but formula fed babies your baby's age are perfectly fine drinking 3-6 ounces every 2-4 hours. It is normal. A baby has a very small tummy and even into childhood will likely eat every 2-4 hours. Even as adults, to keep blood sugar levels healthy, eating every 2-3 hours is a good idea. It is not likely that you were not producing enough breast milk for your baby. Breast fed babies, especially in the first 3 months of life, can easily nurse every 2 hours around the clock sometimes as long as 45 minutes at a time. This is not an indication of lack of production, but how your body and your baby work together to balance out the supply and demand aspect of breast feeding. Sometimes when the supply and demand begins to balance out, the engorgement of the breasts subsides considerably along with a lot of leaking and some moms think they have stopped producing milk. Even older breast fed babies go through periods where you feel as though they are attached to the breast 24/7. This typically happens around growth spurt times and formula fed babies will also eat more than usual during these times as well. Generally, babies will stop eating when they are full. It is common for a little gas or a tummy upset or the need for more sucking to give the baby a sense she needs to eat more than her tummy will hold. When this inevitably happens, too much simply comes back out the way it went in. When a baby is being fed breast milk or formula only, there is no need to worry about her being overweight. Many babies get pudgy but will usually begin to loose that baby fat closer to a year old when they are becoming mobile.

Babies this young don't overeat, they don't eat because they're bored, or emotional...they are hungry.
They look at you to provide what they need, and if you cut back on feedings they won't understand why.
She needs to eat, so let her eat!! My daughter ate quite a bit as well, and she is very tall for her age, but by no means overweight. Babies have to grow an awful lot in the first year, so it's only natural that they need fuel to do so.
Listen to your baby and let her guide you as far as how much she needs to eat.
Good Luck!

Could be a growth spurt right now. Common times for growth spurts are during the first few days at home and around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months (more or less). Babies don't read calendars, however, so your baby may do things differently.

Babies only want what they need and no two are alike, so if she is hungry feed her....the doctor will let you know if her size becomes a problem, but no I don't think that she will be over weight. Babies are supposed to be fat, she will run it all of when she gets older and is moving all over the house getting into everything.

Babies self-regulate. She will only eat what she needs. Please don't be concerned about her weight - even if she is a chubby baby (and that only makes them adorable), it does not mean she will be an overweight child or adult.
My eldest brother was the biggest (chubbiest) baby I have ever seen. He was 10lbs, 12oz at birth, and ate like a horse, packing on the baby pounds. He was gigantic (and adorable). He then grew into a tall thin toddler, and a taller, thinner teen and adult.

Feed the baby when she is hungry. My oldest was 9 lbs 15 oz at birth -- he was so chunky his first year of life. I fed him what he wanted. They are babies. He is 4 now and he is normal weight and has been since 12 mths of age. Don't worry about it, feed your precious baby.

Yes, it is normal. She is developing at a phenomenal rate. Don't even think about her weight at this point. Babies are supposed to be chubby. It gives them something to live on when they get illnesses that rob their bodies of nutrients. Her doctor will tell you if he has concerns about her weight. Most kids start thinning out at toddlers, some not until junior high.

My pediatrician says babies don't know when they are full. You need to ask your doctor how much you need to be feeding YOUR baby every day. Then try and soothe her need to suck with a pacifier. I think they can form a weight problem at that young age. Really, ask your doctor.

Don't obsess over your baby's weight. Let her eat if she's hungry.
