it is a 1947 chevy car not truck and i am just wondering how big the engine is i was thinking a staright 8

Yes it's a 216 cubic inch motor complete with "dip splash" lubrication. No oil pump. The up-dated 235 - 6 also had this type of lubrication system.

As the other person said: The straight 8's all had cast iron pistons. Not a very good piece. Reciprocating weight was heavier then he*l.

Chevrolet never had a straight-8 engine. As far as I can tell, the only factory engine available in 1947 was an inline 6-cyl engine of 216 cubic inches.

The 1947 Chevrolet car had a 216 Cubic inch six cylinder engine. There was no option for a straight eight. Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick had straight eights. Cadillacs had V8's.

Good question, I'm not sure about the straight 8, but I know
the v-8's didn't come out until '55.

I would imagine that the engine would be a straight 6.

Count how many sprak plug holes are on the engine theres one per cylinder. I would need to see the engine to even take a guess.
