Kinda need a car to drive around the surburbs for the time I am here, thanks :) [I don't take rides :P]

It depends which airport your arriving at.
If you are arriving at melb international, I would reccommend looking in the yellow pages and spending 10 mins on the phone getting quotes. This is becasue the airport isn't that far from town (25 ks) and a taxi won't cost you too much to get to your rental, and there are also bus services that are even cheaper.

However, if you are flying Jetstar and are arriving at Avalon, DEFINETLY get a car from the airport as your about 1.5 hours out of Melb (and they have a few different companies to choose from)

You will find the big rental companies at the airport. They are also in town but so are a lot of smaller, cheaper companies. When you get to Melbourne, use the Yellow Pages and ring around for the best deal.

if you just want a car for around melbourne there is a company called rent-a-bomb, not sure if they are at the airport but they are cheap.
