Well...u said a few yourself...A black dress is a must have. And well fitted jeans with a well fitted white shirt always works....
To add zing to any ordinary outfit,team it up with funky accessories....and remember, footwear can make or break an outfit, so pick the footwear that suits ur attire...
also, well fitted tees always come in handy...

I am a college student so I have not enterd the working life yet. However I have jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts for school, then for going out on the weekends I dress up more with a pretty top and heels.
I guess it varies with the age group and person.

well for me, it'd be a pair of heels, like you said a black purse.
tons of accesories; those can make any outfit look great.
A red hand bag goes just about with anything.
Red purses look really great with a cute leopard print shirt or something.
Always have a great pair of fitted jeans, and classic t-shirts are always nice to have. i cant go without flip flops, so i always have a pair of those on hand.

A nice fitting pair of jeans. A versatile jacket or blazer, and a nice pair of slacks...that can be worn to the office, then a night out on the town.
