The y-intercept is the value of y when x equals zero, so:

4(0)-3y=12
-3y=12
y=-4
(0, -4)
Similarly, the x-intercept is the value of x when y equals zero, so:

4x-3(0)=12
4x=12
x=3
(3, 0)

Both the prior computations are correct.

But the "answer" is that the x-intercept occurs where the line defined by the equation crosses the X-axis. That happens when y=0, so to figure it out, you substitute 0 for y in the equation and work out the math to calculate x.

Similarly, to get the y-intercept, which happens where x=0, you'd substitute o for x and go through the math.

4x - 3y = 12

y = 0

4x - 3(0) = 12

4x - 0 = 12

4x = 12

Divide both sides of the equation by 4

4x / 4 = 12 / 4

x = 12/4

x = 3

The x intercept is 3
