6x + 16 = 4x

transpose 6x
16 = 4x - 6x

simplify 4x - 6x, this is equal to -2x

16 = -2x

then divide both sides by -2

x= -8

Do you mean in simple algebra?

6x + 16 = 4x
6x (- 6x) + 16 = 4x - 6x (from the other side)
16 = -2x
16/(-2) (from the other side) = -2x/(-2)
-8 = x
x = (-8)

Or is this something of a more complicated theory question?

6x + 16 = 4x
-16 -16

6x = 4x - 16
-4x -4x

2x = -16
/2 = /2

x = -8

6x + 16 = 4x

to find the value of x=

first step, combine like terms..
the like terms in this equation is 6x and 4x. they are called like terms because they both have the same variable which is x. it doesn't matter if they differ in the their coefficient which is 6 and 4 as long the variable is the same

now, to combine the like terms, you must make sure that both terms are in the same side.

in the eqaution:

6x + 16 = 4x, the like terms are not in the same side. meaning one term is on the other side of the equation and the other terms is in the opposite side.

so, we transfer 4x to the left where 6x is so they will be both in the left side. but always remember that when transferring terms of addition and subtraction, they become of opposite sign. since 4x is a positive term on the right side, it becomes negative when transferred, so it becomes -4x..

so the equation is now
6x - 4x + 16 = 0

why is it equal to 0 ? it's because there are no more terms left on the right side of the equation since we have already transferred 4x to the left side.

now, we can combine the like terms.

6x - 4x + 16 = 0
2x + 16 = 0

2x came from simply subtracting 6x-4x.

now, we transfer 16 to the right side of the equation. why? because we cannot combine 2x and 16 because they are nit like terms so we simply transfer 16.

since 16 is positive, it becomes negative when it is transferred to the right side

so the equation is now

2x = -16

now, since we want to know the value of x, we must get rid of 2. we need to get rid of 2 to get the value of x. how do we get rid of 2?

well, we simply transfer 2 to the right side. how?? well, we divide the left side and the right side to 2.

2x = -16

2x divided by 2 is x
-16 divided by 2 is - 8 (it is negative because the dividend and divisor are of opposite sign)

so, we simply substitute..

x= -8

here are more examples

6x + 9 = -3x
6x + 3x = -9
9x = -9
divide equation by 9 so,
x= -1

10x - 5x - 1 = 9
5x - 1 =9
5x = 9 + 1
5x= 10
divide equation by 5
x=2

6x+16=4x
it means 4x is 6x greater than 16..in other words 16 is 6x less than 4x..which implies that 4x-6x=16(see when 6x goes the other side, its sign changes...like this + becomes -,- becomes +,X becomes / and / becomes X)...
=>-2x=16
=>x=16/-2
therefore x=-8

6x = 4x - 16
6x - 4x = - 16
2x = - 16
x = - 8
