i have a 2 week old baby girl ! and love her to death, but I am alittle concerned bc she wants to nurse all day long...seriously, if i take her from my breast so i can get a drink of water, go to the bathroom, put landuary in, what ever...she starts to wail until i place her back on my breast....is she hungary, or just want to suckle? im really frustrated (and sore)...help.
yes i am using a pacifier when she will take one, but i think she would rather use me instead....she will take a pacifier from her daddy, or her nana. and i have used the techniches from the "happiest baby on the block" dvd...and it does help somewhat, but she just wants to nurse all day long.

she is likely going through a growth spurt...meaning she is trying to increase your supply by nursing constantly...it should only last a few days and then go back to feeding every 2 hours or so.
She also may be a slow feeder and want to "nibble" a bit, instead of just getting done. Make sure you mention to the dr if it continues.
Good luck!! It does get easier!!

My son was exactly like your little girl. He would scream if i put him down and go to the restroom or even to drink water. I was never lucky to have anyone help me around and i had to do all the work by myself at home in spite of undergoing an emergency C-Section. Husband came home only once a week after work but cudnt do much as i was the one who had to feed the baby. It was quite tough until he was 3mths. His sleep was also very less during the nights and he wanted to be nursed constantly. He sometimes would sleep that way putting his mouth to feed. If i try to pull him off and place him on the bed he would scream again and cry. I totally lost sleep and rest and during the day when he slept i would quietly get away and take a quick shower and do the washing cleaning and cooking. I dont remember sleeping well until he was 3 1/2 to 4mths old. Dont worry... may be your baby girl is going through the growth spurt and i hope she will be fine soon. Babies grow so quickly that you will miss all that you are facing now. Enjoy these days with your bundle of joy. And congratulations on ur new baby :-)

definite its ordinary. My first baby nursed continuously I asked my dr. persistently and that they only laughed, lol. She could nurse each now and then 2-3times an hour. Then she basically slowly enable up. My son nursed each 2-3 hours for some months, and could basically do one breast at a time to boot. Thats positive as long as you are able to keep in mind which breast he had final so which you don't get engourged on the different, its not a situation. by capability of approximately 4 a million/2-5 mos you are able to initiate giving cereal which will help plenty too. Odds are if he's basically doing it for 5 min at a time, its greater of a pacifier for him.

Yes, it's perfectly normal.
It's part both - but her suckling now is what's bringing in, and stabilizing, your milk production.
I fully sympathize with the soreness. My daugher is 10 weeks, the same way, and I can't get her to take a pacifier, UG!!
But for soothing soreness, you might want to pick up a pair of Soothies nursing pads at the local drug store.

I breast feed my baby, but I would pump my milk and put it into a bottle because I didn't want my baby on my breast all day. I would pump every 2 hours and it would be about 4-6oz,and I would just give it to her. I loved doing it that way because she would only eat every 2 to 3 hours and I knew how much she was getting because it was in the bottle. I was able to go to the store and know what time I had to be home to feed her. Sometimes I would nurse her in the middle of the night because I was just too tired to get the pump out. Maybe this is someting you can try because it really helped me out,and it was nice knowing I was giving my baby my milk. Good luck and congrats on your little miracle!!

Its so perfectly normal.
Newborns do tend to nurse what feels like 24/7. Remember that breastmilk is digested easily and babys stomach is only the size of her fist. So its itty bitty, and she needs lots and lots of feeds.
As she gets bigger and her stomach grows and she learns to nurse more effectively then it wont feel like she is nursing constantly. Soon you'll be asking if she's nursing long enough because it will only take 5 mins for her to get what she needs:)
Some of it may be comfort nursing and that is fine, she is 2 weeks old and thats what she needs. Remember she is all new to this as well, so give her time to get used to it.

Because you're sore, and because she might not be taking in a whole lot of milk, you might want to check that your latch is as good as it can be. There are how-to-latch videos at http://www.drjacknewman.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=42
But yeah, it's well within the realm of normal, and it gets better.

I agree with 'newmom' but also check with your lactation consultant or nursing mothers group. Drs seldom know about breast feeding intricacies!!!

I remeber felling that way with my son. After 6 months I ran out of milk. Have you tried a breast pump and then bottle fed her with your milk? My son would not take a pacifier at all. Try hiring a wet nurse I am just kidding. ( that is someonr who breastfeds infants for you ust in case you didn't know)

That happened to me you should pump your milk so you know how much milks she is getting on the breast she probably isnt getting enough milk and is still hungry. Try giving her formula if the pumping doesent work.
