All that matters is the election and good news is not good news for the DEMS.

The good news that the American public wants to hear is that our troops are coming home.

Even the Bush administration realizes that you can’t feed the public “good news” about Iraq and then maintain that we have to stay there, losing lives and spending 2 billion dollars a week, for an extended period of time.

Some might begin to wonder why, if the news is so good, we are still there when we were told that the Iraqis would take over military and security operations. Theoretically then, our military presence would be minimal at best. Of course the story changes all the time so I suppose there would be some other excuse as to why the Iraqis can't take over military and security duties.

That's odd. I've been watching CNN and the Big 3 and every single one of them has been reporting about the drop in death rates amongst American soldiers and Iraqi civilians as of late.

"...but the military cautioned it's too early to declare a long-term trend."

Thus, until the Iraqi gov't itself takes advantage of the lull in violence to make significant political reconciliation and needed improvements in the local economy and infrastructure, fighting will once again continue. Military approaches do not work without a long-term political solution.

Other than the lower death rates, however, there is not much else in the way of good news from Iraq.

Hmmmm... 4 hours of electricity per day in Baghdad. Hooray!!!!

No seriously, $2,600 is the average salary for an Iraqi. I'm sure a shopping spree is in order!

The war has now cost each American $23,000. Yippie! Don't worry, costs are increasing almost a billion dollars a day. Alright!

3,500 US military now dead. Tens of thousands more injured. Yahoo!

Please stop me from spreading the good news.

If you think the news is so great why don't you move to Iraq? Better yet, why don't you pay higher taxes for the war?

If you believe the war is wrong there can be no good news. That is my opinion of the anti-war side. I read in this forum last night that a COL from the Iraqi Army sent money to the California fire victims, he and his Unit also sent money to the Katrina victims as well. Regardless of war, what you think the Iraqi people think about us, this was a very selfless act on behalf of the Iraqi people. I for one believe they do see the honorable goal we (Americans) wish for their country.

What good news?

We have been there for 5 years.

We have spent nearly a trillion dollars.

We lost 4,000 U.S. Soldiers, and over 265,000 Iraqi civilians.

The Blackwater scandal.

35 Troops killed in October, of which 17 were combat deaths.

Somehow I do not see any good news in that.

Yep fewer deaths this month than last.
Hurray.
Wait a minute, I know this and all I watch is mainstream media. How could this be?

Because violence down right now is not really good news. Violence down for a whole year, that's good news. Violence down this month does not mean the violence will stay down in Nov, Dec. So right now we have haphazard good news.

Warm, fuzzy, happy stories don't sell but if you twist that same story to where the dog struck the match that set the house on fire so the dog could rescue the family from a horrible death; that now sells! Liberal media is pick and choose and "TWIST" !!
