Is the Catholic Church overreacting?

OOPS, Britney has done it again. Or so the Catholic Church claims.

If you don't know by now, Britney's album just dropped and the Catholic Church are in an uproar. Why? Because of her provacitive pose in a confessional while a priest suggestively looks on.

One spokesperson for the Church commented on the picture , which can be found inside the cover of her CD. Her publicist has since released an apology, but the spokesperson for the Catholic church said that no lame apology is going to work. Instead Britney should be concerned for her soul.

HA! How many priests have been accused of sexually assaulting little boys?

I haven't seen the pictures, but Brittney's career seems to be on a steep downhill trajectory. This seems to me one of many inappropriate career decisions she has made in redefining herself from all-American girl to sleaze.

The incidence of the sexual abuse of a minor is slightly higher among the Protestant clergy than among the Catholic clergy, and that it is significantly higher among public school teachers than among ministers and priests.

everyone likes to harp on the catholic church because of personal bias, and the media LOVES it because they'll do anything (including dance with the devil) to sell a few more papers. The priest scandal is irrelevant anyway, those priests will have to answer to God and may He have mercy on sinners because THOSE ones are going to need it.

As to Britney's pictures... she's doing it for the same reason the media did, and her appology means little since this was just a media stunt. Artists pay MILLIONS for album artwork and EVERY single photo and word is well thought out and executed. Furthermore, she portrays a sacramental of the church in such a light as to bring discredit on an institution founded by God. She'll have to answer to that to, and it's not my place to judge... but i'll settle for being mad at her and not buying her album for it (not that i would buy it anyway, she's just pudgy trailor trash these days)

I'm ashamed of the recent scandals of the Church as so well brought up again by the other responders, but I'm insulted as hell that Britney has decided to display priests as secretive, lust-hungry fornicators, especially in the one place that is the most private and holy for many Catholics, the confessional. This is sick.

Yes lots of priests have been accused of sexually assulting children, but do you know how many of those acusations end of being true? Not that many. I've seen the photos and yes I personally feel as if it is a dirrect attack on the Catholic church and at me. I am so tired of people picking at the Catholic church. It makes me sick!

Britney is a slut and is dissing us. Of course we should be pissed she needs to give a real apology not some half *** one like the blowjobs they give. And the priests who rape little boys are messed up and get unordained.

The Catholic church likes to pretend to be pious. They don't have the best record of deceny. The Catholic church went through a period of complete corruptness in the Middle Ages and the child abuse cases recently that they covered up etc. They need to ignore this because they are the real ones that should be ashamed.

This doesn't apply to all Catholics though.

It's almost like the catholic church is offended by a priest looking at a WOMAN....but the past shows that whenever they were caught molesting BOYS they were just moved from one parish to another...hmmmmmm. What's the church trying to say??
