Before the age of five, I remember what people told me, or more often, things I 'remember' are actually recalled through pictures. I think that a lot of people think they have memories, but they are recalling responses or appropriate responses to photos they have before the age of four or five. Some can legitimately remember back further than that, but usually just snippets. The brain is not mature enough too much before four or five to categorize or save memories of any length.

I can remember moving house when I was 2. I remember walking through an alley with everyone carrying stuff (we only moved a few streets away) and when we got there, the phone was in the garden, although, why I remember that, I have no idea.
So yes, I can remember being 4 and younger and it's my memories though I guess I do have some "implanted" ones too.

I can't remember alot from when I was 4 I only have memories of my first year at school which must be actual memories as who would have told me about them! But I do have a lot of images of what has been told to me by my parents and they have become real memories.
Now my hubby can remember things from when he was very little such as sleeping in a cot! I find this amazing as he swears they are actual memories...amazing!

My earliest memory is of reaching up to a rail in a building that was round the back of the house we lived in until I was nearly four. That memory can't have been placed there by someone else as it is me reaching up, and the scenario would not have been one that would have been photographed so I have not seen it on an old photo.

No, I can remember quite a few things from when I was three. Not other people's memories ; definitely mine. It is quite a bit actually ; mostly playing games in the backyard of our first house. We left there before I turned four so that is how I know for certain.

I have very vivid memories from that age and a little younger, but my husband can't remember anything about that age.
It may be a personal trait, like being able to paint or draw... some people have good memories others don't

depending on how much of an impact one event had on you as a young child, it has a stronger hols throughout the passing years. infact i can remember exactly back to when i was three, i can remeber quite persicely where everyroom was what it was, where my toys were and who i lived with. because my family was taken away from me at age four, i had relied souly on memory. 12 years latter i was reunited and my memories were confirmed fact. so it is possible to remember things indepentantly at a young age.!
(you should never doubt children since they are constantly learning through those years and are most effected in these times)

I have flashes of a Anglo Catholic Convent that I was sent to away from the London smog for my health. None of them good as I was treated really mean and was removed by my mother 3 months later, when the Convent was then reported to the authorities. I can remember the food (if you can call it that) and the clothes and being told off all the time.

My son can recall events from the age of 4 or younger - things which I have forgotten a long time ago. So I guess for him its memory,

I remember a lot of it, i started school then, but i remember a lot of memories from my schoolwork, my old toys and from family photos. So I guess it is hard to say what your memory is from.
