I don't know why my touchpad is working correctly while it is working on battery and it will be confused when working on AC adaptor. My laptop is hp compaq nc6320.

Overheating sounds unlikely to me though it might be possible, if the pad itself is overheating you should be able to feel it.
I'd see if there might be something else different when your on battery or AC, maybe you wear gloves when it is plugged into the wall or something but I'm really clutching at straws.
If it's still under warranty you might ask about getting it looked at.
