I don't want to complain as people will think I am a trouble maker but sometimes the jokes get a little too much.
Should I make an official complaint?

And what do you expect a formal complaint to do? You want to use force to stop these kids from hurting your feelings? You think you're being teased now, wait until you go down this path.

Be a man about this. Speak up for yourself.

I think that trying to talk to the offending person is your first step. It's okay to tell someone that a certain joke was over the line. Sometimes people don't realize they've pushed things too far and will try to reign it in. If the behavior continues however, then it's time to make an official complaint.

After retirement (from business not teaching) I became a substitute teacher. I think you in the UK call them "replacement" teachers. While my first year and a half I worked in a number of districts and schools, in my last year and half I was pretty much in one district and eventually in one high school. I was that school's first openly gay male teacher. There were two lesbians, one of whom ran the gay students club. I was never teased about it, nor would I have put up with that. The only difficult part was handling the incessant flirting from the guy students.

teasing as in jealous? curious? or just plain dickheads that dont understand? society seems to mock those that they dont understand as though it is some sort of acceptable defence against the whole unknown factor. no you should not have to put up with this. if your good at your job regardless of what you do in your own time it doesnt give them the right to do that to you. make it well know to the bosses and then a lawyer. this had sexual harrassment all over it. women dont tollerate it so why should men.

I am not gay but wish to remark on Canutes answer about a gay man teaching in a boys school, he is assuming that gay men are also paedophiles and needs to get educated such ignorance is dangerous.
I agree that you should report this matter. All bullying (and that is what this is) should be stopped. Sue the school and go and work in a more enlightened environment. Good luck.

People mock that which they fear the most.

Ummm....this may be a real quote, or I may have just made it up, not sure....BUT, the point is, those who tease the most are almost certainly longing for an introduction to your rusty sheriffs badge, they are just too scared to admit it.

So my advice, dearest boy, would be to start flirting a wee bit - you know, playing footsie under the lunch table and "accidentally" touching their bottoms as they pass you in in the corridor.

This is, of course, assuming you are talking about your fellow teachers and not the pupils because that would really not be seemly.

People may mock and make you uncomfortable,
my way of getting back at them, not in a mean way but to make them think, is to come up with a reply like for instance:
you mock my sexuality, is it because you are unsure of your own?

this would shock them for a bit and make them think. i use it whenever people say things about gays or lesbians, maybe ab tad blunter though.

i don't know whether it would be the right way to go about it, but i hope it helped.

Is that you in the picture? You could use a serious make-over. Don't be afraid! Have someone cut your hair, and buy some new clothes. Try and tell yourself that they will pay in the near future for the way they have treated you.

I agree with jingles. You should confront those who step over the line at the time that they do it. Make it very clear that it is unacceptable. If that doesn't work then it is bullying and you will need to make a complaint.
