It is not always men that haven't had a relationship with a woman.
Rape isn't about enjoying sex, it is about power and control over someone.
It is about humiliation.
What makes a man commit rape?
Who knows?
Not sure about the mentally derranged thing because I think most of the men that do this, do it time and time again and know EXACTLY what they are doing. I would hate a man to get off a Jail sentence on the grounds that he was mentally unstable at the time!
Unfortunately the % of rapes that are reported is very low.

The courts would allow rape as long as it is ''consistent with his (religious) practices and it was something that was not prohibited." We don't allow those who would marry children as part of their religious beliefs, so why allow something equally odious as rape? Enough of this bowing to Islam! Good for the appellate court judges for overturning this stupid decision. I'm so happy to hear someone in this country is standing up to the Muslims.

l think is is a control thing, yes many men who commit rape cannot hold down a loving relationship, but l do know that there is no place in our society for anyone who commits this crime.

Fear.
The act of rape is a hatred and all hatreds are born out of fear. Somewhere somehow , someone taught the poor fool to hate women. It could have been his mother, his father, his sisters but someone taught him that fear.
He learnt it in his formative years and had the teachings reinforced throughout his life to the point where he took it out on a Friend, or a stranger.
The despicable act is based on fear.

In a gender class i took in college the main reasoning behind it was a feeling of power, and not sexual in nature. No matter the reason I wish I had a gun and a line of rapists in front of me
