It does not affect your chance of concieving but it does affect your chances of a healthy baby. When you do not have as adequate amount of folic acid in your diet in early pregnancy, you are putting your unborn at a risk of its nueral tube (spinal area) not closing properly and developing unusually. This can result in things like spina bifida and anenchephaly. Some of these babies cannot live outside the womb. To be safe, its recommended to take around 500mcg of folic acid daily 1 month before pregnancy and at least 12 weeks into pregnancy.

HAHAHAHA Lol. sorry, no that is not true. However, there are lots of health benefits to be gained from taking folate, ESPECIALLY when you're trying to conceive.
It has been shown to significantly reduce the chances of your baby developing spina bifida and other such neural tube defects. Not only that, but it has shown some signs of having a preventative effect against heart disease, and assists in keeping iron levels up, which, for a pregnant woman, is very important.
Your chances of conceiving are the same whether you take folate or not. HOWEVER, some fetuses that don't develop properly self-abort. Given that folate assists with baby's development, it could be suggested that not taking folate decreases your chance of a successful pregnancy but this has not been studied.

You should take folic acid if you are trying to get pregnant so that the baby will develop healthy. They recommend 400 mg while trying and once pregnant then its 600 mg. Its not necessary to take to conceive no. It can be found in a great vitamin that I take called Opti-Women. Here is a link to buy them. They are on sale too. Good Luck!

No, but if you don't take folic acid, the chances of getting a child with spina bifida are greatly increased.

I don't know about that. But I do know that you should start taking folic acid before conception in order to prevent certain birth defects. I know that doctors highly recommend it.
