Yes. I do remember the show. It sure was a tear jerker. However, I had a gnawing doubt how far some of the talels of woe were real. In fact, some women were so carried away that the damsel detailed by a dacoit at dead of night appeared tobe comfortable. However, the examiners were perspicuous and could see through it and such a greater tragedy fell on the women who narrted this tear-jerker. She did not get selected.

I heard that it is being revived as a part of the new Reality Shows. We are in for a few tear jerkerssss.(and perhaps prizes as well which would bring on smiles,if not laughter.

However, I could not help feeling even then it was an unethical resort to sentimentalism. It contained no clue to ensure that such tragedies did not strike again(Leave aside cases where hey had never struck but were mere dramatic productions)If such programmes are to be aired again the emphasis should be on ways and means to ensure that these incidents do not recur.

Yes I do. I think it came on when I was in school tho. But I did
see alot of episodes after I was married. Jack Bailey was the
MC as I recall. I just saw a picture of him and two ladies who
helped him onstage back then. I sometimes felt the women
picked were just a bit too pitiful in the way they cried at being
chosen or given something in a gift that would help them in
some way. Some of them would have a hard time keeping
their crown on straight and the crown would slip sideways.
They'ed always be given a big bouquet of roses after they
sat down. And then Jack would talk to them about things
they'ed mentioned they needed in their homes to help make
life easier. And it was always nice to see how happy they
would become when given that special item. It was a show
that made you feel good. And the half hour passed very fast.

I loved it! Like most other kids I just knew someday my Grandmother would be Queen. They tried to revive it for a very short time in the late 60's or 70's and it was too contrived never really was a hit.I can't remember the 2nd attempt' name.

Yes I remember that show, it was one of my favorites! They didn't always give BIG prizes--one time they gave a lady new tires for her car--not just a new car. Other times they would give money, all stuck together like a streamer. The crown & Robe, the flowers----God that makes me feel old!!
Thanks for the memmories!

Someone wrote in about my mom's transportation being broken and how much she needed a new broom to take me to my lessons. Unfortunately, she was not chosen. So she put a curse on the lady that won the washing machine for her five dirty little brats! hee hee Her washing machine never did work right. It was a fun comedy for our entire family. We about died laughing at the end when they handed the lady her bouquet of red roses, cape and crown!

One of my friends was Queen for a Day. She won among other things a kiln for her ceramics hobby. This program was a popular program. It was years before VCRs or else all of her friends would have taped it. And yes, it was a real tear jerker.

Yep, remember that one too - my mom used to watch it and dream of being a Queen, then my Dad would tell her she was better than a Queen - she was head of the world! lol
