All kinds of people face financial hardship at one point or another, myself included. Planning for these events sometimes in just not possible given circumstances and extended family has to secure their own financial security so help has its limits. I guess it all comes down to what the individual is prepared to do to take care of his family. Taking a job that he may consider beneath him so that the family can eat and live comfortably is a hard thing to do, but you have to swallow your pride and provide for your family if you are any kind of real man at all.

Well in today's society a majority of husbands and wives both have to work to get by unless you've got a really good job that pays really well; especially if you've got children. I'd suggest that you try and find a job as well till things start to improve, possibly holding off on the wedding as it will cost quite a bit of money. Consider trying to cut cost here and there on things you really don't need; hang in there, remember the phrase, "for richer or poorer." One thing for sure though, when times are hard your family grows stronger as one & its amazing what you can do to gether as a family when times are rough. Best of luck to you.

Depends on my relationship. IF it is still strong and I still love my spouse then I would endure. Perhaps I would even step up, challenge the norm, and become the "bread winner" for my family. Who knows, perhaps the spouse would be great at maintaining the house while I worked. Hey, don't knock it till you try it.

register him at a number of jobseeking networks, search daily for jobs,a few really good sites are:
http://www.seek.com.au
http://www.jobsearch.gov.au
http://www.careerone.com.au
i've been down that road and it can get tough to the point where a loaf of bread is a luxury! it will improve though, just make sure he registers at the jobseeker networks.

my mom loved my dad... but he was a starving artist and she wouldn't marry him until he got a real job. you shouldn't start a family if you can't support them. i don't want to support your family with my paycheck. don't mind helping out a family that can't help it until they get back on their feet, but are you expecting welfare to take care of you? just askin?
