It's pretty normal. Loads of girls come on here and say they're self-conscious about them and loads of guys say they don't notice/care or they like long ones: http://www.sexylabia.com
If they're not causing serious chafing or anything, might be best to leave them. Very few people will see them and hopefully any guys you let down there will like you enough that they will appreciate them. Also, many girls don't really like the look of their genitals, short or long lips.
You can get surgery, but only if you really want to...I know it would be cosmetic and most likely a few thousand, but unless you're having real problems it's probably not worth it cos you might lose sensation or something (one woman posted here and said she wasn't satisfied with the result). If you can't talk to a nurse though then you won't be able to get surgery. I say learn to love your body, if you fix them with surgery you'll just find something else you don't like...google "labiaplasty" to find more info. I did find some before and after pics a while back.

It is normal to have the labia minora be a bit long for some women. But excessive length could be a sign of a hormone imbalance and I would recommend having your doctor check your hormone levels first.
I had the surgery 10 years ago and it's something that if I could have started over with what I know now I would have never done it. Ever since having the surgery done I have had nothing but problems.
As for cost of the procedure it depends on the fee of the doctor doing the surgery as well as from hospital to hospital. Also, most insurance companies will not cover the procedure (see further below).
There will be a scar afterward. Also, I had a lot of pain after the surgery for about 2 weeks. The first couple days or so after the surgery I had to drink a ton of water to keep my urine from being concentrated. When the urine was concentrated I had a burning sensation.
My insurance company covered the procedure because of medical problems. I had a lot of pain and irritation from the skin when I wore panties and pants.
Because of having the surgery , now every time I have to see a new doctor for some of my health issues I have to list this surgery that I had done in May of 1997 as part of my surgical history.
If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

First up, Most woman find their vulva's unattractive...
Inner labia should actually hang out.
The labia is in fact a very cleverly designed one way valve that would allow fluids out but would block bacteria moving in.
Thinking of it in those terms, one can easily see the advantage of long inner labia.
Most men do not find labia unattractive, even while we women do.
There is an operation whereby a surgeon actually cuts away some of the inner labia, but because it has become such a popular operation, they are asking much more money for the simple procedure than it is worth.
It is over priced and over rated.
Besides, the man in your life would actually not be affected by this procedure at all.
Try to accept this as part of your design.
A gynie once told me:
"Your genitalia is a physical manifestation of your genealogical make up".
He was saying that your genitalia confirms the genes of your forebears and is something to be proud of.

Not all women's vaginas look like porn stars'. It is quite normal for the inner labia to stick out a bit!
And if you're too shy to talk to a nurse about your private bits, you should be too shy to talk to a doctor about getting them reduced. How can this affect your life? Nobody but you, your partner and your gyno are ever going to see the bits in question, unless you shower in communal shower rooms, and there nobody cares.

Lets be honest - a vagina is not a pretty looking thing in the first place and what you are describing is absolutely within the norm. Do not even think of surgery - absolutely not.

Salem, methinks you worry too much.
I think your sweetie sees beauty where you do not.
It may be difficult to find a surgeon to willingly perform that procedure. If that is the route you choose to go, do it with a gynecological surgeon, not a general surgeon.
