If all oil was to cease millions would starve, infrastructures would crumble, governments would collapse and world chaos would ensue. Is this not worth fighting for? Just to make it clear I am against the Iraq War but do not believe we are there for that reason. Just do not agree with peope who say oil is not worth fighting for.

Nicholes- Your right alternative energy sources do need to be found but until then and until whatever this source may be overtakes oil as the main energy source of this planet oil will be worth fighting for.

So, you think the world should return to barbarism. Before civilization took root in America, when the game became scarce in one tribe's hunting grounds, they would raid another tribe's villiage and kill off that tribe in order to take over their hunting grounds.
In America, we can no longer support the energy needs of our people with our own resources. So by your belief, it's okay to fight another country for access to their resources. How is this any different than barbarism?
The government has spent over a trillion dollars fighting in the middle east in the last 6 years. Had that trillion dollars been spent on fuel cell development instead, we would be energy independent by now.

Maybe oil is worth fighting for. If we go to war for oil though don't dress it up as "toppling an evildoer" or "freeing the people from oppression". Call it going after the oil.
If we are too ashamed to admit what we're up to maybe we shouldn't be doing it.
And I don't believe for a second that the powers that be would ever try and go to war without dressing it up as some noble freakin' cause when it's really about protecting our basic right to lots of cheap stuff.
Do I sound cynical? You bet, I've been paying attention for a really really long time.

I agree with Ash and a number of others.
We do need oil. Just dont dress it up (lie) about why we are over there fighting. This is what both presidents named Bush have done with both Iraq wars. Why is it that we can "liberate" an oil rich country like Kuwait but leave so many others without that level of committment.

You can spend billions on a nonrenewable resource but it will be gone along with those billions one day.
Or you can spend those billions on figuring out a way to put nuclear power plants on the grid from remote places, or you can work as Europe does, on hydrogen energy. Or you can subsidize solar panels for homes, there is a surprising amout of things you can already do to meet the inevitable.
Besides making Exxon richer.
Lack of oil isn't surprise, we had a taste of it in the late seventies and eighties. Ever wonder why it wasn't noted and acted upon? Ever wonder why we have to lay down our lives for oil that the company charges us for?

Well, lets look at it from our perspective. What if we were selling oil to everyone and some country that is bigger than us doesn't like the price we set and they come and take it over. Is that good, do you agree with that? how about instead of spending all that money taking over oil rich countries, we find another energy source. Electric vehicles are a good start. Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car" it has lots of neat inventions in it.

Money would be better spent seeking an alternative to oil. Given your argument consider the cost of war and the expenditure of oil in a war. Planes use oil and related resources. So do tanks, trucks and ships. Simply occupying Iraq cost billions of dollars a year. Wouldn't it be more logical to seek a alternative then to continue to spend so much in the hope of winning a limited supply?
I am also not claiming this is the reason for Iraq I am simply arguing your point.

Oil is worth it. It is our life blood.
To the first answerer. The middle eastern countries have the ability to screw up the market and drive prices off the charts. Another reason why we need stability in the region, even though we get most of our oil from Canada and Venezuela.

it isnt, were not fighting for it and no conflict involving the us has been for that so your question is moot as there is no conflict to speak of. you need to stop reading pelosi pap and start looking at the facts for yourself.
