WTF!!!!! if everybody who's quiet, have little or no friends, and play on-line games a lot considers themselves nerds; then roughly a third of the world are nerds.
YOU ARE NOT A NERD.
YOU ARE AN INTROVERT.
and please don't simply use the word 'nerd' as you are dishonouring the namesake.
getta a life.

Nope.
Nerds are people who study so hard they hardly have time for anything else.
Now Geeks are something else: they are social recluses without necessarily having good academic records, but display similar symptoms:
Interest in indoor, solitary activities rather than outdoor group events
Poor at sports, though not necessarily weak- just untrained
Poor or no social skills: do not look you in the eye when they speak, hardly speak, or step forward, and are EXTREMELY shy
In the Animal Kingdom, they would make excellent targets for abuse because they emanate weakness, or passivity at least. Some people just make you want to hurt them because they have no confidence, and just sink into themselves, shrink away from others: I don't like it, but it is instinct, and Nature does not forgive weakness. Walking into a room with your head held high, and looking everyone in the face, an open, confident face, not necessarily an agressive one, is worlds apart from trying to scurry into the nearest corner.
Now, if you have been homeschooled, well and good.
The whole point of going to school is to learn how to deal with others, rather than the stuff in the books. Get your grades, but learn who you are and how to stand up for yourself if you have to. Some idiots might try to put you down if they think that you are too weak or too strong -too different. If you know how and when to talk, and with whom, you're on your way to asserting yourself.
Be yourself, and you'll find at least a loyal friend or two.
No need to be the Prom Queen or King or School President if you are not interested, but if you are, don't obsess over it.
Titles are better deserved than taken.
If anyone goes as far enough as to hit you, fight back.
If the harrassing does not stop, report it, but still fight back.
Tell your parents, but learn to stand your ground.
On the positive side, keep your chin up- literally- but do not look anyone down your nose.
Once you have been there long enough, you'll be all right.
Try to turn your nervousness into excitement: imagine all the things you'll learn!
Who knows, you might have the best years of your life there.
Good luck!
Whatever you do, do not make yourself a shell to live in.
Don't be an over-aggressive jerk, either.
Take it easy, and it'll be all right.
Have fun!
P.S.:
Investing in Computer Geekdom can be a good investment. (Hint: Bill Gates)
Entry into good colleges requires good social skills as well as super grades.

you don't sound like a nerd to me you sound like a scared kid whose been wrapped up in cotton wool too long i think your new school will be the making of you i'm sure youll make lots of friends just choose wisely ask your mum if your friends can come round to yours every now and then so she can get to know what type of company you are in then maybe shell lighten up and learn to trust you and be a little less over protective i'm sure shes doing it because she loves and cares about you but shes going over the top after all you need to live your own life not your mums. maybe you could talk to a relative or teacher about your feelings after all a problem shared is a problem halved and as for looks beauty is only skin deep its whats on the inside that counts

It doesn't necessarily make you a nerd, it just means you're more anti-social than others. Being home-schooled often has that effect, but going to a school with other kids will likely help with your social skills.

school kids that dont belong to any group of clicks in their classroom might be a loner or a nerd .the difference being a loner might be friendly if approached and spoken to while a nerd might not even get that opportunity either because of his looks or nobody likes him

Of course not! It takes a little time to get used to it, but people are always interested in the new kid, Heck I WAS the new kid a few months ago. Give it some time. You will make friends.

having no friends doesn't mean you are a nerd.
nerd means stupid, irritating, ineffectual or unattractive and also means an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit.
