You'll need a Windows XP and a (bootable) Windows 98 CD.

1) Backup anything on the machine you wish to keep.

2) Start the computer on the Windows XP CD. You'll go through the installer to the point where you can partition the hard drive. You'll want up to a 30 GB partition for Windows 98, but no more than half of the drive all together; whatever's left as unpartitioned space will be used for Windows XP. Once you have the partitions set and it starts formatting the first partition - LET IT FINISH, it will automatically format the partition as FAT32. Eject the Windows XP CD, pop in the Windows 98 CD, and restart the computer before going any further in the Windows XP installation.

3) Install Windows 98 like you normally would.

4) Start the computer from the Windows XP CD. When you get to the section about partitioning the hard drive, put Windows XP on the second partition. You'll really have no choice but to format the partition using NTFS (unless your drive is 60 GB or smaller; that's OK though, as WinXP runs better with NTFS.

5) After Windows XP is finished being installed, you'll be able to dual-boot between 98 and XP. Note that while XP is able to access the 98 partition, 98 is not able to access the XP partition, as it can't read NTFS. Also, make sure you have hardware that is usable under XP and 98, so both have accelerated video, audio, fast disk access, and networking available.

Don't think it is possible to run two OS at the same time. XP is an upgrade of 98 and will overwrite it.
