We don't stop thinking, thats why we create problems, war, and ideals to live by. If we only thought when we needed to or wanted to, would our lives be simpler?

Yes, it would make for a simpler life and one more full of joy. But the problem is that most people do not see the mind as a tool to be controlled or disciplined. Their minds run wild, often leading to chaotic results.

To still the mind, one must first believe that the mind is not the master. It is not "you" and you will not vaporize if it is quiet.

A disciplined mind is more creative and powerful when it is used. Less likely to get caught in a rut, more likely to solve the problems at hand. But this requires work and most people are too lazy to even start.

Yes. Not thinking when we don't want to think is not stupidity, nor is it boring. To be able to be free of thoughts for an extended period of time is a great blessing from God.

Usually Christian Contemplative monks, sisters, and religious desire to reach this state. So do Buddhist monks and Hindu Yogis.

If you are interested, I have knowledge and experience in this area. Why are you against ideals? John Lennon of The Beatles spoke negatively about them in one of his songs but John didn't know what he was talking about.

How are ideals of love your neighbor, or do unto others as you would have them do unto you, cause wars or problems. Sometimes you hear people talking about religions causing war, but except for Islam, all religious scriptures say that we should have love and compassion for others.

It's not differences in religion (except for Islam) that cause wars and problems; it's people who don't follow the teachings of their own scriptures that cause wars and problems.

Thank you for asking this interesting and important question. You have depth girl!

I don't think so. some things we need to think ahead in order to prevent disaster. For instance what if we thought of flying the plane but did not think of landing gear until final approach. Oops.

Look how many cease to think at all. I think we need more thinkers. Life wouldn't be simpler; life would be boring.

absolutely not. what do you think causes war(s) in the first place? it's emotions. problems like AIDS is caused by ppl who wants instant gratification.

if ppl stop to think about the consequences of their actions, many of the world issues would have been solved by now.

unfortunately, we don't use our brains and thus................do i need to say more?
