If it's the stuff I'm thinking of, it could be glamatex which contains asbestos, this is generally not a problem if the coating is not friable. Removing the stuff requires some effort, if it is asbestos, with suits aspirators and the like..

Mixing glitter in the paint will end the glitter. The purpose of glitter is to make the ceiling "sparkle". Too much and it looks awful. Just a little and it's perfect.

This was called "glitter" but was also called "glass" I still have some, it was blown into the wet ceiling through a hand held tube. It did a nice job but, as things go, so did this style. I still have all the stuff for it.

No , It wasn't Spray,, They would paint and while it was still wet they just through the glitter up and it stuck, Contractors found a way to "Blow the glitter up

i think it was only dangerous to breath when they were applying it. Or grinding it down to remove it.
it was really pretty, though.
