I have a white sleeveless knee length tunic dress which has a flattering & comfortable design.

The only problem that is stopping me from wearing it out of my house is that it is made out of pretty thin cotton. It's like if I go under sunlight with that dress I might as well walk around in my undies in public... It's fabric is not light sort of a standard cotton t-shirt material. I believe it's its color (white) that makes it translucent?

My tailor actually advised me to get wear a pair of "underwear skirt" for the bottom & a white tube top for modesty. As it would make the dress' cut less flattering if she sews a lining (more poofy).

Anyone with any other advices? Or just want to agree with my tailor?

I have a similar experience with a white skirt that I bought. It's really pretty and very flattering. It has no inner lining, so it's quite see through in light. It's not possible to wear it with a slip (I had never owned one so I bought one with the skirt) as it loses its shape. I agree that white is really attractive to wear, but quite often the colour lends to the garment being a bit see through in sunlight. Still I love wearing white.

A friend has a really thin blue dress that she wears with a similar tone bra and thong, and I must admit she looks stunning in it. She suggested that I wear a skin tone thong. I tried it and it works wonders, the skirt drapes perfectly and there are no dreaded panty lines at all. I will do this with all my white clothes from now on, and will definately go on buying white clothes without fear of my underwear being seen.

Give it a try. In these times almost nobody wears a slip anyway, and if you are confident you should not feel that you have to either. I wore my skirt with a bright red short top and flat sandles. Everyone that saw me complimented me.

I would suggest something in the purple family, or blues and greens. Anytime I am faced with a shopping decision I go to a store that I like. Then I pick up anything that looks remotely interesting. Pick up different colours in the same style. Then hit the fitting room and try them all on. Try to do it on a day that you are feeling decisive. If the style works then look for others like it and if the colour works then stick with that. Ask the store clerks to help by getting you more, because sometimes someone else may see something you wouldn't. Don't let yourself be pressured and walk away if you get stressed or tired and then revisit with a better idea of what you want.

You can try getting a white unitard, or an under formfitting white dress. I saw one at wolford.com, and this one comes in sizes 2-16 and B and C cup options with extra bust support and convertible straps. Go check it out. WOLFORD.COM nylon-cotton-elastane (No.51182) It's kinda pricey, but if you're on a budget, just remember the design and buy something that looks like that wolford one. Good Luck.

PS: Sounds like that dress is really cute, where did you get it?

I agree with your tailor, as any addition to the dress will lose its comfort. Also if you wear a skirt and top it will still look very classy, but do make sure that they are white otherwise the dress will look "dirty".

Good luck

I'm a guy and might enjoy the view, but my suggestion would be to wear a white full slip, preferably silk or a similar material.

This should allow you to wear the dress without revealing too much.

What's wrong with wearing a slip? Also, white is for after Memorial Day to Labor Day.

i agree with ur tailor.

but instead of wearing a tube top try a nude bra or something close to it. or those "nipple cover" thingys that you would probably see at macys, or walmart.

or try find another light and thin dress -like thing to wear underneath it so its a full even cover.

Get a slip. You don't need one of those stupid underwear skirts. Also, if you can get something to put over it like a cropped jacket, that would work too.

i would advise maybe wearing white lingerie if you don't want your undies showing.
another solution would be the solution your tailor gave you
